This is my security door at the bottom of our apartment block.  When you come down in the morning to step outside and you see ice and snow covering the door and massive drops of ice on the floor you feel like turning around and going back to bed.  It's going to be a long winter...

Friday fun...

So I am yet to tell you all about my high school English class that I take once a week.  One of the English teachers at Lotus works at school 31 in the same neighbourhood as my work.  He asked me one day if I would consider visiting his school and sitting in on his English classes from time to time.  I don't particularly want to fall into the trap of teaching English here.  It's not that I have anything against it I just believe I am here to do more than teach English.  Anyway I said I wouldn't mind visiting his students as its always good to keep contacts within schools for resource sharing and so forth.

Today was the second class I had with the students.  It's actually a lot of fun and I really enjoy the time I spend there.  Last week I taught them the game celebrity head which provided a lot of giggles and this week we talked about winter.  There is also a question and answer portion of the class where surprise surprise I find my self explaining the reason why I am not married, why I don't have kids and whether or not I like buuz.

Friday night found us on the town again....a new club that had a glass dance floor and a fountain that would randomly spray the crowd from time to time.  When the police came in to shut the club down after midnight the crew ended up at another karaoke joint singing bad Christmas carols and random ballads.  Life is good.

Please read this...

I am not one to ask for donations for different charities or organisations but when it's something close to my heart as this I just have to put it out there...

Rattanachai (Nai) is one of my trainers from Tiger Muay Thai and I can honestly say he is one of the most gentle and kind-hearted people I know.  Nai and his lovely wife Nit have a beautiful baby girl Tup tim who has a liver condition and they need to raise money for a parental transplant.  If this does not happen in the next four weeks the doctors say she will die.  I know there are many children out there needing help but all I can do is ask that you think about donating some money...it will honestly make a difference and be directly helping this family who have always been so generous and loving to me.

Children should not have to die because medical bills are too expensive.  Think about all the money that we waste over Christmas and New Years on meaningless things...it wont take much to actually help this family and save Tup tims life.  I'm asking you from the bottom of my heart to please follow this link to find out more about Tup tim and how to help:

Baby it's cold outside...

Yep it's cold...I thought it was cold before but I was wrong.  I'll probably be wrong again in a months time when I'll be saying..."woah I thought it was cold in December."  I'm thinking I may need to look at wearing some animal friends as I'm already wearing too many layers.  Although there is always this option...

I think I could work it.  I already get stared at on a daily basis so why not give people something to really look at?

One benefit of this less than desirable weather is all the boys wearing cashmere.  I'm happy to live in the coldest capital in the world if it means seeing boys rocking their cashmere threads.

Here is what three silly girls look like after being unable to find a taxi and therefore having to walk for forty five minutes home in the dark thinking it would be fun to shop at Narantuul aka the coldest place in UB on a -35 degree day...

End of another working week...time to ditch the smog

Had lunch today in town with Ben.  My first introduction to horse meat...you know what...it was really good!  What has become of me???  Really felt chilly today.  You know its getting cold when even Mongolians looked rugged up and tell you its a cold day.  A group of us decided to go out to Steppe riders in the National park near UB, spend the night and go horse riding on the saturday.  Any excuse to get away from the smog...

dinner at Steppe riders.  Veg soup and doughy dumplings

looks like the REAL cold weather is just around the corner...
